The city of Olathe was incorporated in 1857 and is the County Seat of Johnson County, KS. In the  Shawnee Native American Language it means "beautiful". It is situated twenty miles southwest of downtown Kansas City, along the historic Oregon-California and Santa Fe Trails. Olathe is easily accessed via Interstate I-35. 

Olathe has 35 elementary schools, 9 middle schools, and 5 senior high schools. JCCC Olathe Health Education Center, Kansas School for the Deaf, K-State Olathe, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.
